I received a peace certificate as a member of the Youth Peace Forum between years 2006-2008 at Centenary Secondary School.

Current qualifications:

UKZN Undergraduate Degree: Bachelor of Social Science (General Psychology and English).

UKZN Postgraduate Degree: Bachelor of Social Science Honours (General Psychology).

Research experience: In 2013, part of the requirements for my Postgraduate Honours Degree in Psychology was to conduct fieldwork. My dissertation attempted to understand the relationship between psychological capital (which consists of hope, self-efficacy, resilience and optimism) and procrastination in a sample of students at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal Howard College Campus.

Community/Volunteer and Humanitarian work:

In 2012, I became a peer educator through a training workshop for an HIV/Aids organisation located within the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (Howard College) called the “Campus HIV/Aids Student Unit”. The work I did is useful because it gives me experience of the Psychology field. Part of the work we did as peer educators was to conduct presentations and campaigns, hand out pamphlets, create posters and visit student residences, other campuses, schools and Westville prison where we informed people about HIV/Aids, rape, intimate partner violence, sexual assault and pregnancy. Additionally, discussions and debates were about the possible influences that shape people’s sexual attitudes and behaviour in negative and positive ways and other measures that can be implemented in order to prevent further HIV/Aids and S.T.I. infections in South Africa.

In 2016, I was a researcher and co-facilitator for a communitty project at Cato Crest, KZN. The project explored issues around domestic violence/gender based violence, family matters, reproductive health, substance use/misuse and safety & security. The aim of our community project was to create a dialogical space for our participants to explore the subjective factors that contribute towards the issues that they experience. In this way, participants went through a reflexive process to create their own meaning of their realities without us as researchers imposing on them of what we thought to be right and wrong in their lives. In doing so, our project aimed to understand the experiences of the men in a contextualized manner and explored possible solutions that would stimulate positive change and wellbeing within themselves, their families and their community.
