Part 2

The second session was held on the 29th of June 2016, gender based violence (GBV) was the broad theme of this session. The subthemes for discussion were 50/50 (gender equality), domestic violence/intimate partner violence, anger management, protection by the law and Men’s rights. Representatives from DRAMAIDE (a local NGO) and the Cato Manor police station member’s constable Nzama, Mr Xulu from the policing forum and Mr Zwane from the Youth Desk were in attendance to educate the men about their rights and the law with regards to issues of violence and assault. Mr Kenneth Qalaza, a health promoter from UKZN Edgewood campus, was also in attendance as a guest speaker to talk about the detrimental effects of GBV as well as to encourage the men not to engage in this practice.
