Part 5

The fifth session was held on the 27th of July. The theme of this session was the issue around Substance use/abuse. We had guest speakers from Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) and SANCA who discussed issues on alcoholism, drug use/abuse, different types of drugs & its effects on overall wellbeing, tolerance levels, gender roles, abstinence measures, treatment plans, and support networks and how these have an effect on family/social relationships, work performance, behaviour, physical/mental health and on their recovery process. Participants were given posters to put up on notice boards for the Cato Manor community to see and hopefully respond to if they or anyone they knew experiences difficulty with coping with substance use/abuse/misuse. Before the session ended, one of our participants thanked all the members who were present for their attendance, commitment to the project and ended the session with a prayer. Refreshments were then served to our participants.
